Whistle3

Picture
  1. When was it made? - This instrument was made in the 20th centry.
2. What kind of instrument? - It is a Whistle Pendant.
3. Where is it from It is from Democratic Repbulic of the Congo.
4.What (if any) cultural symbols are on the instrument? - My instrument's symbols are, first it looks like a Squid, second at the top you can see stripes, it also looks like a  a lower case h, a whole  on the stripes, and lastly it has a crown at the top with eyes at the bottom.
5. Personal Reflection - My personal reflection is, I thought it would be cool to try something different then everyone else. Everyone basically has a bucket drum, but I don't (yeah sure people have pipe flutes )mine is a flute but not just one you blow into, it is one that you can also beat it with sticks, (shown in the picture below.)
6. What is it used for? - This Whistle pendant is used in a cultural celebration.

My Finished Instrument

Picture
Hi my name is Vanessa, I  made a Bottle Flute. My instrument is like a flute only ,it is used with bottles. My bottles are attached to a wooden board, which has holes in it to keep the bottles stabled. The way I  decorated  my instrument is  with my heritage signs, which happens to be German, Puerto Rican, French, and English. The colors of these flags are on my Bottle Flute. I started making my Bottle Flute on February 28,2011. It is used for blowing, I also hit it at the top with sticks that are crossed in the picture. My instrument is similar to my culture because  I can play my instrument at a carnival or some sort of celebration and  my culture does the same thing, only(not) with a bottle flute, with their drums and flutes.

My Challenges

Challenges  that I faced were,  trying to figure out what I was going to do and how I was going  to design it.
The way I solved that problem is by designing a  plan and sketching it out so I knew where everything was going and what was going on it.

All about me!!!!!

My name is Vanessa I love dog's and tigers. I was adopted and have a twin brother. My favorite color is purple, and my  favorite singer is Justin Bieber. I enjoyed doing this project because I got to learn about my heritage and be creative by making my own instrument, learning how to do things on the internet and work together with the people in my group. I am a very sweet girl once you get to know me but I can  also be snobish but that's only my mood. I have a some friends who I really enjoy hanging out with. I am, German, French,  English, and Puerto Rican.

                                                Bottle Flute Report

Snake, Snake, Monkey Snake. That’s the sound of Striped Tigers practicing.

My Cultural Vibrations report will provide interesting information about the design,

comparisons to older instruments and the traditions important to my creation.

Are you looking for a functional musical instrument that is also a cultural artifact? Then look no further because here it is a bottle flute with French, German and Port Rican colors, Also there are stickers and glitter glue to represent their objects the parties and celebrations. Also I used blue, white and red food coloring to represent the French Flag. That is what I put on my instrument, to decorate it.

Is that information coming around the corner? We’ll when you look at my Bottle Flute compared to a flute you can see the similarities and comparisons. My instrument compared to the African instrument are totally different and the same in many ways. First they are both are instruments, that can make high and low pitches. To add they represent their own culture or cultural heritage. Also they both are made of different tools and made or from different places. They have different meanings when they are, preformed and the looks and the reason they were made.

My Bottle Flute can be used as my culture experience because…..

Our band the Striped Tigers is performing at the carnival, with all of our friends waving and shouting our names. The group’s significant traditions are Striped and roar. Our group is wearing a red shirt, skinny jeans and sneakers with red white and blue shoe laces. We ware a bow in our hair (girls only) red white and blue bracelets. Lastly a black stripe on each side of our face. That is how we are dressing for our The Stripped Tigers big show. Also were we are performing at.

You just read about the design, similarities and comparisons between the two instruments and the traditions.
