African Instrument!

Picture
This African instrument is a harp. This instrument is from Africa. This instrument was made in the 20th century. This instrument was used for entrainment of groups, reciting details of travels and experiences of wandering minstrels. A cultural symbol that is on the African instrument is a beautifully carved head with detailed coiffure and earrings, and a carefully stitched animal hide that covers the sound box. For my personal reflection I would still like to know why this instrument has a head on top of it. Last but not least i want to know why the color of the instrument is brown and black.

My Unfinished Instrument!!!

Picture
My instrument is a drum. It is played by hitting it with my drum sticks. The materials that I made my instrument out of is wood and three different size buckets. The challenges that I faced during the process of making my instrument is making the table, it was hard because I had no experience with building anything. Also, believe it or not I did not know where to get three different sized buckets. Last but not least I had to cover the buckets with construction paper and it was really really hard to wrap it around. I solved these problems by asking my Mrs. Pakstis to help me a little. I also asked my mom where to find three different sized buckets. Last but not least I asked Mrs.Pakstis to help me put the construction paper on my buckets.

MY FINISHED INSTRUMENT!!!!!

Picture
This is a picture of my finished instrument. I think I created a cultural meaning in the decorative elements I chose because the heart on the large bucket represents the love I have for my family and friends. The Portuguese flag stands for heritage. Also, the cross with the heart in the background represents my Catholic beliefs. Next, I have the soccer poster, it is a symbol of how much I love soccer. Last but not least, I have a Portuguese word on the bottom of my instrument the word is comida, comida means food, and that is a very big part of my family!

A Little Bit About My instrument!

Picture
Hi I'm Katherine, since my group planned on doing Cultural Heritage, I planned on painting my drum red and green. Half red half green, I picked these colors because they are the colors of the Portuguese flag. I picked this picture to represent the drum that I am making. Have fun exploring my page and pretty soon I will have the actual picture of my instrument up on my page!

A Little Bit About Me!

Picture
This is the flag from my culture. As you can see I am Portuguese, but there's more to me then just that. I love playing soccer it's kind of like a tradition in my family because my dad played soccer when he was a child. I'm also a good cook.I get that  from my mom's side. Portuguese people are crazy when it comes to festivals because there are all kinds of food like chicken, fish, and sweet bread. When you come home from a feast you will go home really full!
